Chicken Tractor

It’s been a while since the last post but I assure you, the projects have continued.  Recently,  between work, baby duty, and general life administrivia I was able to devote some time to assembling some scraps into a chicken tractor that had been building itself inside my brain.

About six months ago we stored away a big sandwich board we’d build for a group to post campus events, that was never used.  I was told to go ahead and take it out to the street for the trash but we’re talking good wood and some hardware!  Well, it went into the crawlspace, and contributed some key components to the base frame, the handles and the plywood for the nesting box.  The wire mesh panels from our original coop became the primary sides.  Some ratty shelving we disassembled from inside the house became an A-frame pitch and added overhang for the nesting box, and the wheels came from our recently kaput lawnmower. One day when I get a little more time, I’ll paint it all up so it looks more cohesive and less Frankensteinian.
